Bryn Mawr Sports Rehab Program at Primal Physical Therapy:

where you get back better than before your injury

Sports-related injuries happen to athletes at every level and of every age. And while every sport may predispose those athletes to a particular type of injury, no two injuries are ever precisely the same.

At Primal Physical Therapy, no two sports rehab programs are the same. So instead, we use an evidence-based practice model that blends the research on factors that predispose athletes to injury and maximize recovery.

Our clinical expertise in sports-related movement and performance allows us to customize and tailor every recovery program to the individual and the injury. This approach not only allows us to get our athletes back to doing what they love, but they return to their sport stronger, safer than before.

How do we do this? Well, it’s not rocket science. We know that our bodies produce speed, power, strength AND perform better when they move and work efficiently in a way that is mechanically sound. This highlights a very important but often missed concept in many Sports Rehab and Performance Programs:

Sports Performance IS Injury Prevention

Primal Physical Therapy’s Sports Rehab Program gets you back in the game and helps you stay there without pain. Our programs not only address the injury our athletes come in for, but we also address the underlying issues that predispose them to injury in the first place.

With a Sports Rehab Program that focuses on the underlying causes instead of just the problem, we find our athletes return to their sport pain free and more confident because they have a better foundational and mechanical infrastructure to support them.

This not only greatly reduces the chances of reinjury, but it allows our athletes to perform at their best: stronger, better than before.

We’ve helped thousands of people recover from their injuries and allowed them to get back to doing what they love.

Our therapists have decades of experience, expertise, and success in treating athletes of all levels, from elite professionals and Olympians to adolescent athletes working hard to grow their game. In addition, we pride ourselves on offering only the best state-of-the-art equipment and technology so we can help you recover faster and remain healthy longer.

Sports Rehab in Bryn Mawr, PA and at home

We are excited to meet you at our new Bryn Mawr location on Lancaster Ave! From our clinic we will work together to rebuild your strength, stamina, and range of motion, address your individual needs related to your injury, and address any other needs that we believe will help you perform your best.

Most athletes meet with us once a week initially, but depending on your needs and goals, we may meet more or less frequently.

Our initial work in the office is usually a lot of hands-on and meant to restore movement patterns needed to facilitate recovery and healing. As soon as we can empower our athletes with range of motion, strength, or conditioning they can do on their own, we teach them these exercises, and often teach them how to integrate them into their current strength and conditioning programs. We find with this method, we maximize our time together, and are able to get our athletes get back to playing the sport they love faster than they imagined possible.

Our Rehabilitation Process

Step 1

Evaluate

First, we evaluate you and get a big picture idea of your injury, how your body moves, and what factors might have predisposed you to this injury. Also, on your evaluation, we discuss your specific goals and your specific needs related to the position or sport you play. This way, we can make sure we are addressing your needs and goals right from day 1.

Step 2

Heal

Next, we have to address the injury you are coming to us for. Often, we see athletes during a period of inflammation or healing. In this case, the first few sessions are centered around supporting the healing phase of recovery. This may mean using massage, laser, joint mobilizations, stretching, or other manual techniques to decrease inflammation, restore mobility, and reduce pain.

Step 3

Support

While addressing your immediate needs related to your injury, we will also begin exercises and treatments that will support avoiding reinjury and injury prevention for the future. This is where our whole body movement analysis comes in handy.

Step 4

Create

From experience, we understand that every sport and every athlete develops compensation patterns that predispose them to injury, making them less powerful in their role over time. We will create a protocol to address these compensation patterns and get you back stronger than before.

Step 5

Return

Early on in our treatments, we begin sports-specific activities to train your body to move well in your sport. When you are healed, you can jump back into things as quickly and safely as possible.

Step 6

Progress

Once your injury is healed, we progress your sport-specific training to include all the fundamental skills required to do your sport well. This is not limited to the range of motion and strength. It also often includes speed, power, change of direction and cutting, rotational patterning, endurance, fatigue resistance, and more.

We take your specific position and sport and tease out the fundamental attributes you need to do your sport well. Then we train those attributes. To make you better. Stronger. More resilient.

In essence, we play the “long game” with our athletes because we don’t treat a single injury, we treat the entire person.

Our approach recognizes each injury as an opportunity to take a good look at your movement profile and set you up for success in your sport through injury prevention and sports performance all at once. We find this gets our athletes back from injury faster and keeps them out of our office longer.

Sports Rehab FAQ

For most of our athletes, nothing is more painful than being unable to play because of an injury.

We work with our athletes to choose a plan of action that meets their needs and goals and tolerance to treatment. Physical Therapy is a team sport, so we educate our athletes in all the available techniques and modalities to get them back as fast as possible. We help them make the right decisions for them and their unique situation related to return to play.

This answer is directly dependent on the injury and that injuries healing time to recover. However, we utilize techniques and modalities such as dry needling and Class 4 laser therapy to facilitate recovery and healing, so the short answer here is as fast as possible.

This is something we can answer after we have evaluated the unique athlete and their injury. We pride ourselves on maximum efficiency in utilizing your time, financial, and sweat investment in your recovery. Most injuries we can treat with a frequency of 1 visit per week. Still, depending on the situation’s urgency (in season vs out of season, etc), we may recommend more frequent sessions to return the athlete to sport sooner.

Our Bryn Mawr Sports Rehab Program is covered through your out of network coverage with your insurance. Our facility does not have an insurance or billing department that handles this coverage for you, but we will provide paperwork that allows you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement on your own. Many of our athletes choose to do this and it is not a complicated process.
