Functional Versus Structural Limitations
Durable posture change requires repeated motor practice and progressive strength training. You cannot maintain corrected alignment through conscious effort alone without the postural endurance to support your joints against gravity. Clinical care distinguishes functional posture issues, which stem from muscle imbalances, mobility restrictions, and motor control deficits, from structural constraints like fixed spinal deformities (although you’d be surprised at how many people think they have fixed structural deformities that change with the right type of therapy). In cases where there are true structural constraints, our approach is to maximize your progress within your capabilities. Both scenarios respond well to active care.
